Well, at long last we have a website. This was the aim since perhaps February-March 2024 and a lot of things have happened since. The biggest of which was MCM Comic Con in May 2024. I will be the first to admit that I severely underestimated this behemoth of an event and the amount of work that would be needed to ensure that this was a success and to say that I was underprepared in an understatement. Seriously, just ask my unhappy helpers over that weekend who witnessed me still putting together artwork whilst the convention was in full swing. (I may perhaps save that topic for a separate blog post as a lot did happen over that weekend including zero hours of sleep the night before and a totalled hire van).
Anyway, the aim was to get this website up and running before then however on averaging around 4-5 hours sleep in the weeks building up to the event it just wasn’t possible. Thankfully it was a success thanks to everybody who came by and bought a piece of artwork, poster, PokéBall, and even those who gave such wonderful compliments on things that I spent so long crafting in the hope that it would make at least one person smile. As someone who is quite critical of their own work I can honestly say that it was the interactions and encouragement like this which made the whole weekend worthwhile.
After the event it was following up on orders and enquiries, a mass organisation and clean up, and the odd travel to Budapest, Barcelona and America, all whilst trying my best to keep on top of orders and plan for the upcoming months. I decided that even though Comic Con May 2024 was a challenge, I would love to do it all again in which I could learn from the mistakes from the first event, and put this to good use for Comic Con October 2024. That’s right, we are heading to the London Excel MCM Comic Con once again from 25th-27th October 2024 and with it, a brand new website. I couldn’t face handing out any more business cards with a non existent website so I ensured that I made the time to finish what I had started all those months ago. I can’t begin to describe the sense of accomplishment from creating this website which has long since been a goal of mine, and as somebody who rather isn’t that tech-savvy, I am rather proud of the end result in which I hope you are too. (I must add that this did also include a lot of YouTube videos, Google searches, Shopify Help Centre questions, and most commonly, the “let’s just take a break and come back to it” moments).
So welcome, and rest here weary traveller. Thank you ever so much for visiting us at thesilphcompany.com and we hope you choose to stick around, for we still have so much yet to show you.
Until next time.
Will
